In Harmony 3 the Alabaster creates a shape of its own. The Paduck wood follows the stone. As the wood curves and folds it adds a bit of its own spirit. Both materials, harmonizing with the other, eventually return to the source to be reborn and harmonize yet again as a natural state of mind to just let it happen and enjoy.
Medium: Walnut, Mahogany, Wenge, Purpleheart, Rosewood, Poplar, Lacewood, Tigerwood and Redgum. Turquoise Inlay.
84" x 56" x 18"
This is a representation of the wonders of Southern Utah and it's magnificent rock formations. Within those beautiful formations are arches which are created over Millions of years by Mother Nature. Notice the water stains on the wooden arch as nature bleeds the minerals from the stone. The 'Arch' has a multitude of layers depicting earth's layering. The center stone is a very special piece of Kanab Golden Sandstone showing the natural formations of arches within the stone.
Hoodoos are formations in the desert southwest. A rock or hard part of the earth is layered above a softer portion. As the earth is weathered and softer layers are washed away a column of earth is the result with the harder layer left on top which is the HooDoo. HooDoo is a representation of this act of nature.
Nature's beautiful tapestry reveals many treasures within the cycle of life. The Earth gives forth to all things that in time with return to its elements to be reborn. This sculpture was inspired by formations found throughout the Southwest where erosion has shaped colorful limestone, sandstone, and mudstone into a spectacular array of spires, fins, and pinnacles known as 'hoodoos.'
Medium: Shedua wood that has layers of colors just like the layer of stone in the earth's crust. The sphere is Southern Utah Sandstone.
"Hoodoo4do" is a play on the balance of nature. You cannot out play the laws that nature has put before us. The 5 inch Kanab Golden Sandstone Sphere is hanging out away from its base but there must be a counter balance or the formation would not exist. Just as in nature, in life if you stick your neck out and take a chance you best have a ballast to counter your risk. As you look along the top, you see the wear that nature takes as it dissolves away the base. Even with all the precautions our base will eventually return to the source and so shall we.
In life, your thoughts take you round and round til they either spiral into a depth of darkness or inspiration erupts and finds you. Life also circles around to the source and a new beginning arrives. In this art piece, one circle leads to another and another and back to where you started. Enjoy the journey!
